Leonard Winters
Librarian
Mr. Winters was born in Fort Worth, Texas but mostly grew up in Colorado Springs calling it home until his family moved back to Texas. He went to Texas Technical Institute to pursue a degree in graphic illustration, design and advertising. He also met and married his beautiful wife of 30 years as of December, 18 2023. They spent a few years in Arizona before returning home to Colorado Springs for most part of our 30 years. They have three incredible children, two of them are married and one is in the senior class of 2024 at James Irwin Charter High School.
Mr. Winters worked and managed a multimillion dollar medical respiratory company for 15 yrs. in Colorado Springs before being called to 㽶Ƶֱ as the Librarian and Textbook Coordinator in April of 2010. He soon took on the role of coach for JIMCS cross country and soccer teams for 2-3 years then moved into coaching high school cross country and varsity girls soccer for James Irwin.
Mr. Winters says, “Faith and family come first. I found a family at 㽶Ƶֱ. Whether I am in the library or on the field coaching, I am a firm believer that if you have knowledge you should pass it on to those who do not. I also believe that playing sports as a child not only builds character and confidence but also gives a sense of accomplishment. It also prepares children for life, gives them an avenue to relieve stress and teaches them about working as a team or as a team player, not as an individual. I enjoy getting to see these students grow and mature from middle school through high school.” Outside of school he loves spending time with family, woodworking, backpacking, fishing and just enjoying life.
